SOSpesa is a social initiative launched in april 2020 during the pandemic by a group of proactive citizens and curated by Off campus Nolo volunteers and members since 2021. It has been funded by Polisocial Award in 2022, which has strengthened the network of participants involved in the project.
The pandemic has exacerbated poverty, highlighting how neighborhood stores have suffered from logistical shortages and the need for support for their survival. The crisis has raised awareness of the importance of community networks.
SOSpesa ensures access to food by distributing 20 grocery packages each week to 20 different vulnerable individuals. Ten of these packages consist of fresh food purchased at controlled prices from Mercato Comunale di Viale Monza thanks to private donations. The other half is made up of unsold products recovered from municipal markets and unsold food donated by local stores.
